Playgroup SA is a strong advocate for play, as play is essential for a child’s brain development. It allows them to foster creativity, social and physical skills, cognitive and emotional development as well as practice and master newly developed skills, gain confidence and learn about the world around them.
“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.” -Kay Redfield Jamison
“When we treat children’s play as seriously as it deserves, we are helping them to feel the joy that’s to be found in the creative spirit” –Fred Rogers

Pack a basket full of snacks and head to a nearby park or playground. Let your little explorers enjoy nature's wonders while having a picnic. Don't forget to bring a blanket and some toys for extra fun! Prepare a list of items for your child to find, scavenger hunts are always fun, include different coloured leaves, twigs, and insects.
Engage your child's senses with simple, homemade sensory activities. Create a sensory bin filled with colorful rice or a shaving cream-filled tray. Let them dive in and discover different textures and sensations. You can dye rice with food colouring and vinegar. Let the rice dry overnight before playing.
Create an indoor camping setup using blankets, pillows, and fairy lights. Build a cozy fort, tell campfire stories, bring in soft toys, and even have a pretend picnic.
