Playgroup SA is a strong advocate for play, as play is essential for a child’s brain development. It allows them to foster creativity, social and physical skills, cognitive and emotional development as well as practice and master newly developed skills, gain confidence and learn about the world around them.
“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.” -Kay Redfield Jamison
“When we treat children’s play as seriously as it deserves, we are helping them to feel the joy that’s to be found in the creative spirit” –Fred Rogers
Sensory alphabet play tray
MAY, 2022
Looking for a fun and educational sensory play activity for your toddler at home? Try creating a sensory tray with rice and matching the alphabet!
It's so easy to set up!
Fill a shallow tray with uncooked rice
Hide alphabet letters in the rice (plastic letters work great, but you can also cut them out of paper or cardboard)
Encourage your toddler to dig through the rice to find and match the letters
This activity is a great way to develop your child's sensory skills, as they explore the texture and feel of the rice. It also helps with letter recognition and early literacy skills.
